Macro-Environment / PESTEL

The macro-environment is the big picture forces that can impact the smaller, micro-environment of your social enterprise. It includes things like politics, economics, society, technology, the environment, and laws. Understanding these factors can help you be prepared for changes and make smart decisions for your social enterprise. By considering the bigger picture, you can make strategic choices that will set your social enterprise up for success.

Use the following questions to help you analyze the macro-environment and develop a strategic plan:

  • What are the social trends and values in your community? How can you align your social enterprise with these values?
  • What technological advances are happening in your field of activity? How can you use these technologies to improve your social enterprise?
  • What are the environmental or climate challenges? How can your social enterprise contribute to environmental sustainability?
  • What legal regulations do you need to follow to operate your social enterprise? How can you ensure that you are in compliance with these regulations?
